As per the sources, CAT 2016 may give away with TITA. TITA refers to the Type in the Answer based questions which were introduced by IIM Ahmedabad for CAT 2015.

CAT 2016 may give away with TITA

There were 28 TITA based questions in CAT 2015 examination (10 each in Quant and Verbal and 8 in LRDI section). TITA based questions meant no options were given to the students and students had to type the answer directly. TITA based questions carried no negative marking for an incorrect answer and hence majority of the aspirants attempted all the TITA based questions, taking their attempts to a higher end of the spectrum but not gaining much in marks, if the questions were not correct.

TITA based questions resulted in high attempts by even an average or a below average prepared student, which created the hype (to fade away on the announcement of CAT 2015 results) that the paper was too easy. Except Quantitative section, no other section was that easy.

Verbal Ability was moderate in difficulty level and LRDI was difficult in the examination.

If sources are to be believed and TITA gets removed, this unusual increase in number of attempts will be curbed, as there will be the fear of negative marking in every question.

Expected difficulty level of paper

  • Quantitative Aptitude – Should continue to remain the relatively easiest section, owing to the promotion of gender and academic diversity
  • Verbal Ability – Level of difficulty should go up as compared to CAT 2015
  • LRDI – Should continue to remain moderate to difficult

In adddition to the TITA removal, 2-3 other major changes in exam pattern are expected to be announced by IIM Bangalore when the notification for CAT 2016 is released.

Because of this information coming in, we delayed the All India Open CAT 2016 Mock Test – to remove the TITA based questions and get all MCQs. Free All India mock window will open at 10 PM on 26 July and will remain open till July 30, 2016.
