The CAT 2018 Exam was held on November 25, 2018 and as soon as it gets over, CAT candidates will be eagerly waiting for the results. Post the results, they will be waiting for the counseling session and to secure admissions into the B-School of their choice.

But, the counselling session is not going to be a centralized process this time. It would be dependent on CAT Score, but call letters for counselling will be issued separately by the respective IIMs for the respective seats.

The CAT 2018 score, mentioned on the CAT 2018 Score Card will be a deciding factor for receiving the call letter from your favourite IIMs this year. But the CAT 2018 score is not the only thing that counts in this long process of scrutiny and assessment. Your Graduation score, previous academic record, work experience etc. will also be taken into account.

While lakhs of candidates, who appeared for the test will be desperately waiting for the results of CAT 2018, hardly anyone knows which IIM will send them a call letter. The conducting IIM, which is IIM Calcutta for this year, is likely to announce the CAT 2018 results in the first week of January 2019.

How is the CAT Result computed?

All the appearing candidates would be eager to know that how the markings of the CAT 2018 Exam paper is done or how the marks are divided, and which areas they should work on more to increase their percentile.

Well, here are the criteria which will help you know about the Marking Scheme of the CAT 2018 examination:

  • The CAT 2018 Result is computed as per the Marking Scheme of the exam.
  • According to the Marking Scheme of the CAT Exam, each correctly attempted question carries three marks.
  • One mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • However, the negative marking scheme is not applicable for non-MCQs.

Percentile Score in CAT 2018 

IIMs declare the CAT Result or Score Card in the form of Percentile. A Percentile is a measure which is used to indicate the value below which the percentage of test takers fall.

On the basis of the CAT Percentile only, the IIM institutes and the other participating non-IIM institutes shortlist the candidates for admissions. The CAT 2018 Percentile will be calculated on the basis of the CAT Normalization Process which was adopted by the IIM institutes for the said purpose.

The CAT Normalization Process

IIM institutes use the CAT Normalization Process to ensure that the markings of the test are done with fairness and equality, in comparison with the performances of the appearing candidates across the different regions where the tests are held.

In this process, the location and the score distributions across different forms are adjusted. After adjusting the Normalization across different forms, the scores are then further normalized across different sections.

Under the term ‘Equating’, scores will be normalized across all the sections and these normalized scores will be then converted to the Percentile in order to shortlist the qualified candidates for the further round of selection process.

When will the CAT 2018 Results be available for download?

The CAT 2018 Results will be available on the official website of IIMCAT, which is The tentative date for downloading the CAT 2018 Score Card would lie in the second week of January 2019.

All candidates who appeared for CAT 2018 will be able to download their results from this site. They would require their credentials to login and download the scorecard.

Credentials include their user ID and password, which were provided to them at the time of registration for the exam.

How to check CAT Results 2018?

To check the CAT Results 2018, the appeared candidates should follow these steps:

  • Candidates will have to visit the official website of the CAT 2018.
  • After opening the official website, they have to login using their registration credentials – which are your CAT user ID and password.
  • After you have logged in, you will find a tab named ‘Score Card’. Click on that tab.
  • After clicking on the tab your Score Card will appear on your screen. Download your CAT 2018 Result cum Score Card.

Keep a copy of it with you for further uses. You will be needing this copy during your CAT 2018 Counselling, Selection Procedure and for admission in the institute of your choice.

The CAT 2018 Score Card is an important document or proof, which the qualified candidates will be needing at every step of the counselling or the selection process. It is because it contains potential information about the candidates. This includes:

  • Registration number or user ID of the candidate.
  • Candidate’s name, category and gender
  • Date of birth (DOB) of the candidate
  • Date and time of examination.
  • Candidate contact details and e-mail ID.
  • Scaled score of Section 1 which included Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.

About the CAT 2018 Scorecard – What will it look like?

CAT Results 2018 will be available in the form of Score Card. It will be displaying the Percentile, Section-wise scores of the candidate and the overall scaled scores. It will be easier for the candidates to understand and predict which IIMs may call them for further rounds.

This year, the IIM conducting institute (IIM Calcutta) has also decided to send in the results of CAT 2018 to the registered mobile numbers of the candidates who took the test in the form of SMS.

The SMS will mention only their overall CAT Percentile. The Section-wise scores and overall scaled score will not be there in the SMS. For the complete information, candidates have to download the Scorecard for CAT 2018.

It is important to note that no hard copy of the CAT 2018 Result will be sent to the appeared candidates. Besides this, it will be convenient to check the result on the smartphones and download it there itself.

However, retaining the SMS and downloaded Score Card becomes more of a necessity as no hard copy exists from this year.

Why is CAT 2018 Result/Scorecard important?

Based on the CAT 2018 Result, the candidates will be shortlisted by IIMs and other participating institutes for further rounds. According to the parameters and the cut-off which will be generated by the institutes themselves, candidates will be sent call letters by the respective IIMs.

The shortlisted students will be called for further selection rounds. These rounds include WAT (Written Ability Test), GD (Group Discussion) and PI (Personal Interview). The combined scores of these rounds, as decided by the parameters set by the IIMS, will lead to the final selection.

How long is CAT Score or Result valid?

The CAT 2018 score will be valid only for one year. The date of release of the CAT 2018 Results will be announced by the authorities and after the release, the authorities itself will be announcing the last date by when the CAT 2018 result or score card will be valid.
