CMAT 2015 Overview

Over the last few exams, most experts have stated openly that general awareness and verbal ability seemed to be a little more difficult than what was expected by the aspirants.

CMAT 2015 Exam Overview

There are four sections in the test:

  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Language Comprehension
  • General Awareness

There are 25 questions in each section. The duration of test is 180 minutes, with no break during this time window. So, students could move back and forth between sections. This means that the sections are not timed individually, and the onus is on the students to manage timing between the sections, while ensuring that they show their competency in all the sections.

There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer.

Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation

This section largely consists of Arithmetic and Algebra based questions. Around 12-13 questions come from these 2 main topics.Around 3-4 Questions come from Probability, 1-2 from Mensuration, 2-3 from Geometry. Overall difficulty level of this section is easy to moderate. A good attempt as per past patterns would be around 19-21 in this section with an accuracy level of 85-90%.

Logical Reasoning

This section consists of Analytical Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and logical reasoning. Seating Arrangement is an important topic in this section, various types of arrangements such as circular, matrix, linear should be given importance while preparing for CMAT. An attempt of 16-18 with 85% accuracy can be considered good. Aspirants should keep in mind that this section may have time consuming traps so selection of the questions is important.

Language Comprehension

More than 50% questions come from Reading Comprehension and about 30% come from Grammar such as sentence correction.Rest of the important topics are para-jumbles, paragraph completion, Facts, Inference and Judgement. A good attempt would be around 18-20 in this section with an accuracy of about 85%.

General Awareness

Section generally consists of 2 main areas with Static GK having 65% weightage and Current Affairs having 35% weightage. Static Gk consists of topics from Art and Culture, Science, Awards, Polity, History, Geography. An attempt of around 17-21 would be considered an ideal attempt keeping in mind the accuracy of course.
