The Board of Governors (BOG) in its meeting held on April 22, 2019 at the Indian Institute of Management, Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) approved the appointment of Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy as the Director of IIM Amritsar.
The appointment took place as per the IIM Act 2017 and IIM Rules, 2018 notified by Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. The Union Ministry had in the past held two rounds of interviews for the appointment for the post of director at IIM Amritsar. However, after the passing of the IIM Bill in 2017, a Board of Governors (BOG) meeting was authorised, following which two more rounds of interviews were held after inviting applications from the interested candidates. In the last attempt, three candidates were shortlisted but no appointments were made whatsoever. Now, however, Prof. Ramamoorthy’s name has now been revealed as the full-time director at IIM Amritsar.
Prof. Nagarajan Ramamoorthy: Professional Profile
Professor Nagarajan received his P.G., Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations from XLRI, Jamshedpur and his Ph.D. in Business & Management from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, U.S.A.
After working for Indian Airlines, Brakes India Limited of TVS group and Voltas Limited of Tata group, he left for the USA to pursue his doctoral studies from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, USA. He has taught at the University of Maryland, Marymount University, and University of Houston-Victoria, where he has held several positions such as the founding Chair of the Management and Marketing Department, a member of the School’s executive team for AACSB accreditation, member of the President’s cabinet and academic council and President of the Faculty Council.
He has extensive international experience which include two Fulbright teaching and research scholarships to Bulgaria (University of National and World Economy, Sofia) & Latvia (University of Applied Sciences, Valmiera), Inter-Country exchange scholarship to Austria (University of Applied Sciences, St. Poelten) among others. He has served on the Peer Review team for Fulbright council for three years in the USA. He has been on the editorial boards of Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology and Irish Journal of Management and has been a peer reviewer for several leading international journals.
His research on cross-cultural management has been published in several leading international journals such as Human Relations, British Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of International Management.
IIM Amritsar holds fort as a meritorious institution
IIM Amritsar commenced its operations in the year 2015 with 45 students in its flagship batch. Notably, the second batch at IIM Amritsar with 104 students was the largest among all the newest IIMs.
Recently, IIM Amritsar recorded fantastic placements with 52 recruiters participating in IIM Amritsar Placements 2019. The Highest CTC offered shot up to INR 21 LPA from INR 17 LPA last year and the Domestic Average CTC saw an increase of INR 12.20 LPA from INR 11.02 LPA last year.
Even the Summer Placements 2019 at IIM Amritsar were stupendous this year, with 55 recruiters participating in the same. The Average Stipend at IIM Amritsar Summer Placements for the Batch 2018-20 came up to a staggering Rs. 67, 375. Even the top 25% of students received an Average Stipend of Rs. 1.31 lakhs at a 20.1% growth rate. The YoY growth recorded was 9.85% with both renowned recruiters participating alongside new partners namely ValueLabs, Huawei, Fujitsu, RIL among others.
Therefore, the successful completion of Placements 2019 for the third large batch at IIM Amritsar reflects its industry and corporate acceptability. Notably, IIM Amritsar is the 15th Indian Institute of Management set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development with the support of Government of Punjab in 2015. The permanent campus of the institute is being set up under the direction and mentorship of IIM Kozhikode.
