IIM Bangalore Personal Interview Experience

IIM Bangalore Interview Experience 2019

After writing the WAT, however, candidates have to gear up for PI, which has some of the most unforgiving minutes of life. Personal Interview is an important step in admission to IIM Bangalore and hence, we have listed out an interview experience for you.

Inside the PI room, a panel of 4 faculties were waiting for the Interview: As he entered the room, his hand accidentally banged against the closing door. The panellists have been referred by P1, P2, P3 and P4. The candidate is referred by C. There was a sound which made all the panellists look at him.

C – I am Sorry (All 4panellistss looking at him)

P3 – Did you get hurt? (Looking at the candidate)

P4 – He’s strong. He must be fine. Please take your seat. (Asks him to sit)

C – Thank you sir. (Smiles as he sits down.)

P1 – You don’t have a work experience and it has been more than 6 months already since you passed out. What is your backup plan? (He laughed.)

C – Sir, I have been aiming to pursuing management from top B-schools. In case I don’t get an admission here…. Just in that case, I would prepare for next year. I have also given GMAT, so that I can apply for …. (Interrupted by panellists)

P1 – That’s just a plan. What is the backup plan?

C – I would join my family business and take the exposure. (Interrupted again.)

P2 – Well then you don’t need to do MBA! (Both P1 and P2 laugh, while C keeps patience)

P2 – Are you sure about doing an MBA? Why aren’t you going for CA, Banking, etc.?

C – No, sir. MBA is my passion, especially Marketing. (Feels surprised.)

P3 – Can you please define Marketing in one word? (Goes into depth of academics.)

P4 – Marketing is the process of acquiring customers. It stars with the generation of a lead and ends on selling the product or service. It …. (Interrupted by panelist)

P3 – We don’t have time for an essay. We need things in brief. Please name a few MBA specializations. (Checking if the candidate is really passionate about MBA or not.)

C – The functional areas of MBA, which are HR, Operations, Accounts, Finance, and Marketing are the specialization fields. (The candidate answered confidently.)

P4 – And if given a chance, which field would you opt for in specialization?

C – Marketing. (Quick reply)

P4 – Why? You have a family business operating. You can very well understand Marketing there. Why are you doing an MBA in Marketing? (Investigating)

C – Sir, my family business has been running on a traditional pattern. I want to make changes as per my present needs and for that I need to learn new Marketing. So I want to do MBA in Marketing. (Justifies his interest in Marketing.)

P4 – Alright. (Pause) You volunteered for an NGO that works for stray dogs. Why did you choose this particular NGO? I mean a dog welfare NGO? (Trying to see the personal views.)

C – I have always felt that animals need care just like a human being do. More because they can’t speak their heart out. I have had a soft corner for dogs and when I met the founder of this NGO, I decided to go for it. We saved my dogs from dying in cold and I really felt satisfied. (Explained in one go. All the panellists were smiling.)

P3 – You may leave. (Randomly, the interview ended.)

C – Thank you, sir. (He rose and left.)

Result – The candidate got selected.

The most important part of giving an Interview is speaking what you know with utter conviction. There’s no place for doubtful answers or loose talks. You have to show how dedicated you were or are for the things that you do.
