CAT 2018 Results were announced @iimcat.ac.in on January 5, 2019. The link CAT 2018 Results is made live on the official website of IIM. A ticker running on the website says ‘CAT 2018 Score Card is live and available for download. IIM calls have already been released, with students already receiving calls from IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Bangalore. Since students would now be burying their heads into the GD and Interview preparation, we bring to you the Group Discussion Topics 2019 for your MBA 2019 Selection.

Types of MBA GD Topics

Group Discussion

It is important to bust this myth that the shortlisted candidates for the GD-PI rounds will be asked questions only from the Current Affairs and happenings around the world. In fact, there has been observed an uphill trend in the questions asked from Abstract GD topics as well. However, the ball in your court since it is upto you to decide if you wish to channelise the said discussion around Current Affairs or any relevant subject.

There are primarily 4 Types of GD Topics:

  • GD Topics on Business & Economy: It includes current trends in business and economy, major policy initiatives, latest business trends, and their impact globally and nationally. Here, the topics given are fact-based, dat-centric and focus on topics like Demonetisation, GST, Bank Frauds.
  • GD Topics on Current Affairs: The GD topics on Current affairs include events from National and International Affairs; US Trade Policy, Mobocracy and Media Freedom, Notably, these are issues which are highly debated in media.
  • GD topics on Social Issues: Notably, top MBA Colleges are focussing on developing socially responsible MBA graduates. Therefore, they lay a great emphasis on issues like gender and environment sensitivity, ethics etc. Topics which are both controversial and opinion-based are found here. Eg; Social Media, Smart City, Swachh Bharat.
  • GD Topics on Abstract Topics: As mentioned earlier, Abstract topics are also covered in the GD rounds. But what are the ‘Abstract’ Topics? Abstract Topics are the ones which have multiple interpretations. Also, they help candidates in showing their creativity and smart thinking. Topics include Me Too, Hard Work vs Smart Work and Zero.
