MICAT 1 2016 Exam was conducted today on December 11, 2016. Overall difficulty level of the paper was Easy to Moderate. There were certain technical glitches at few examination centers where candidates saw 1 psychometric question missed in summary, despite having submitted all the questions. For all those who had timer go out in descriptive writing, please do not worry as story section gets saved automatically. MICAT 1 2016 Analysis

Exam Pattern

There were 3 Parts in the paper: 

  1. Descriptive Writing
  2. Psychometric Test
  3. Aptitude Exam 

Descriptive Writing

35 minutes were given for this part of the paper. 

Creative writing had the pictures of children playing in a field, a turtle in water, a library and a dumping ground full of electronic waste. There was a word limit of 400 words here.

Argument writing consisted of 3 questions (For, Against and Opinion) on the topic “Expert Opinions are critical to Geo Political issues”.

Psychometric Test

There were total of 36 questions here, to be completed in 25 minutes. 

In the first set of questions, there were three options for each question about a particular personality trait. Students had to select any single option. There were 10 questions of this type.

The second set of questions asked one to choose from a set of two arguments and to rate them in accordance with one’s personality traits. 

In the third set of questions, the students had to rank various action responses in the given scenario on a scale of 1 to 6 (where a rating of 1 implied highest priority and a rating of 6 meant lowest priority). 

Aptitude Paper

Reasoning

There were 30 questions in the section, with Easy to moderate difficulty level. 

The section was dominated as expected by Word Association (!5 Questions), followed by Visual Reasoning (7 Questions) and then the other topics like Caselets, Statement Assumption Conclusion etc. 

15-17 is an ideal attempt in this section and 20+ is a good attempt, if 85% accuracy is maintained. 

General Knowledge

Section was moderate to difficult. 

There were 22 questions in the section. Questions ranged from General Current Affairs to International Topics to Sports to Taglines to CEOs to Mergers & Acquisitions. 

9-11 is an ideal attempt in the section and 15+ is a good attempt, if 90%+ accuracy is maintained. 

Verbal Ability

Verbal Ability was Easy to Moderate, with Reading Comprehension and Fill in the Blanks dominating the section with 5 questions each; out of total of 25 questions in the section. 

Parajumbles, Sentence Corrections, Antonyms and Synonyms were the other topics from which questions were asked. 

15-17 questions is an ideal attempt in the section and 20+ is a good attempt, with 80%+ accuracy.

Quantitative Ability

Section was moderate to difficult. 

Arithmetic dominated the section of 25 questions, with 7 questions from it. This was followed by 6 questions from DI and 5 questions each from Algebra and Modern Maths (Sets, Sequences and Functions). Also, students have reported that one question from Boats was wrong in the section.

10-12 is an ideal attempt in the section and 14+ is a good attempt, with 90%+ accuracy.

MICAT 1 2016 Expected Cutoff

  • Cutoff is expected to be around 46-48 Marks.
  • Score of 50+ is the safest to get call. 
  • 55+ score is a good score to convert the call with above average PI. 
  • 60+ score is a good to convert the call with average PI.

Not to forget that in addition to above scores, it is mandatory to clear Psychometric and Descriptive writing as well to get the calls.
