The Difficulty Level of the Examination

In the XAT examination over the previous years, the difficulty level has fluctuated in between moderate to high. All the sections like the verbal ability, decision making, and quantitative ability and data interpretation have a good mix of moderate questions.

In case of the year-wise analysis, it is seen that the XAT 2019 was overall a moderate difficulty exam in terms of the questions that came in the examination. The paper was of moderate difficulty with a healthy mix of questions. The Verbal and RC section was moderate-difficult as compared to last year as the RC’s were time-consuming and poem comprehension on the difficult side. However, both QA & DI in the QADI section was easy-moderate. The Decision Making (DM) section continued to be solvable with a moderate level of difficulty. The part I of the paper had 74 questions in total with 26 questions from Verbal and RC section, 27 questions from QADI section and 21 questions from DM section respectively. Part II General Knowledge section with 25 questions was on the moderate-difficult side. However, in 2017 and 2018 the exam was relatively moderate than difficult.

In case of the logical reasoning and data analysis part, it is moderate to difficult in all the years. So it is expected that most of the marks will fluctuate in the case of these papers.

The General Knowledge section has been difficult in case of all three years. Overall the total examination of XAT 2019 was much moderate.

Number of Good Attempts

The number of good attempts really matters in case of the XAT examination. XAT 2019 out of the total 74 questions in part A, 54-55 were considered good attempts. In the year 2018, out of the 74 questions of part A, the good attempting mark was set at 54 to 55. In 2017, Part A was difficult where the number of good attempts was set to 55 and above. 2016 however had 82 questions in the part A where 55 was the good attempt rate.

So it is seen that in the case of Part A the questions are always moderate to difficult. The Cutoff is set according to the number of good attempts.

Overall XAT 2019 Exam Analysis

When coming to the overall analysis of the XAT exams in the recent previous years you can find that the style of the exam changed in 2019 where there was no essay writing, and rise in the penalty for unattended questions. There were no NAT type questions. But the overall difficulty level was moderate as candidates had ample time to attend the reduced number of questions.

In the case of the 2018 and 2017 examination was of moderate to difficult level. The lucidity of the second part of the question paper was seen in the year 2017. Moreover, alarmingly enough, some questions came from the older syllabus making a problem for the students to attempt. These questions actually played the main work of filtering the best students from the rest.

In 2016 some major changes were made in the marking pattern of the exam where negative marking came into being. This changed the marking pattern and the expected cutoff too.

Conclusion

The students those appeared in the XAT 2019 exam expressed an opinion of moderate difficulty in XAT 2019 exam. Moreover, in the case of the first part that is part A, the students faced a variation of the questions that came in the examination.

The students should be technologically sound about using the computers because the examination style is online. Every student should aim to meet the higher cutoff as it leads them to take admission in the esteemed colleges of management in the country.
