MICA, Ahmedabad conducts its own admission test MICAT for the candidates those who apply MICA for admission to their PGDM-C programme on the basis of CAT/XAT/GMAT scores. The PGDM-C is the flagship programme of MICA, Ahmedabad. MICAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT) and is conducted twice a year for selection of PGDM-C candidates. Better of the two MICAT Scores will be considered for shortlisting.

Eligibility Criteria


  • Admission to the PGDM (C) programme at MICA  requires a Bachelor's degree (10 + 2 + 3 system) or equivalent qualification in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Candidates appearing for final examinations towards a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) are also eligible to apply.
  • One of the most important points in MICA Ahmedabad Admission Eligibility criteria is that apart from a recognized graduate degree, the candidate should appear in CAT 2018 or XAT 2019 exam
  • As per MICAT 2019 eligibility criteria, there is no age bar for candidates appearing in the online entrance exam.
  • It is mandatory for all the applicants who adhere to the MICA eligibility criteria to register and appear in MICAT without which their candidature will be cancelled.
  • Candidates who demonstrate aptitude for expressing, assessing, and /or conceiving ideas that move people to action and achieve business results tend to stand a better chance of being shortlisted.

MICAT 2018 Analysis: Psychometric Test

There was no negative marking for the psychometric test. It was compulsory to attempt all the questions in this part. There were total 27 questions in this section. Most of the questions were based on ranking your preferences.

MICAT 2018 Analysis: Descriptive Test

The section comprised four questions. The first three questions were based on the topic: ‘Equality is MYTH'’. In the first question the candidates were asked to state 3 arguments FOR the topic. Similarly, in the second question the candidate was asked to state 3 arguments AGAINST the topic. The third question asked the candidate to state 3 points that we can do to maintain equality in world. The fourth question was picture-based story writing. The choice of the sequence of pictures was available to the candidate. The section essentially tested the creative thinking and writing ability of the candidates. 

MICAT 2018 Analysis: Divergent & Convergent Thinking

This section had 30 questions. The section had some easy questions as mentioned in table below, but overall difficulty level of the section was a little bit higher than the previous year’s paper as the section contained more questions based on data sufficiency.

MICAT 2018 Analysis: Verbal Ability

The Verbal Ability questions were moderate. This section had 25 questions. The Grammar concept tested was Prepositions. The vocabulary questions were of moderate LOD. The Reading Comprehension passage was an easy-read with 5 questions: 2 were fact based, 2 were based on main idea and 1 was on meaning. All the questions were easy.

MICAT 2018 Analysis: Quantitative Ability

The section consisted of 25 questions. This section was the most difficult of all. The difficulty level this year was very much higher than previous year’s. A good percentage of questions were from Arithmetic while there was no question on Geometry and Mensuration. Most of the questions were calculation intensive.

This section had 25 questions. The level of difficulty was higher than previous year’s. This section this year missed familiar questions like, match the following: brand taglines and logos. A lot of questions were related to Banking & Finance. Following is the break-up of questions:

MICA admission test, MICAT is a multidimensional computer-based examination, which assess candidates in multiple areas such as Divergent Thinking Abilities, Written Communication Abilities, General Awareness about contemporary social and business issues, including areas relevant to media, advertising, marketing & current affairs and Analytical & Verbal Abilities. The MICA Admission test also includes psychometric test to assess the candidate’s leadership potential. 

Mode of Examination: Computer-based online test.

Number of Sections: There are 6 sections in the exam.

Total Numbers of Questions: Total number of questions are not pre-defined.

Marking Scheme: 1 mark for each correct answer.

Negative Marking: There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in the aptitude section.

Medium of Paper: The paper will be in English language only.

Exam Syllabus


The questions in MICAT will be spread across 6 different sections. The Psychometric test is a qualifier. Aspirants who qualify on the Psychometric test shall be further assessed for MICAT sections on Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, General Awareness, and Divergent-Convergent Reasoning.

In the MICAT Psychometric test, the candidates will have to answer a few unconventional questions related to their personality. There will be three questions in the MICAT exam paper:

  • A set of 25-30 statements will be given and the candidates will have to select 10 statements which describe their personality.
  • A set of two arguments will be given and the candidates have to rate them according to their personality.
  • A particular situation will be given along with two different options. The candidates will have to select one option according to their personality.

The creative writing test will contain essay writing on a current topic, story writing from a set of pictures and a topic on which the candidates will have to write either in favour of or against and justify their stand. While, Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability consist of topics same as other management exams, General Awareness section includes current trends and topics in media, marketing, advertising and business industries.
